Longfield Solar Farm has recently appointed a solar contractor who will oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of the site. Further information can be found here – EDF power solutions UK appoint METLEN to lead construction of Longfield Solar Farm – EDF power solutions UK and Ireland.

To support the design of the solar farm, ground investigations and surveys have begun on site and will continue for around eight weeks. The information gathered will help shape the detailed design of the project.

The surveys and investigations will take place over a period of approximately eight weeks, with work finishing by 1 April 2026. All piles and machinery will be removed from site by 4 April 2026. Adverse weather conditions could result in work continuing past this date.

You may see some of our team members on-site during this period. We have checked the locations where we will be working to make sure we don’t disturb wildlife or utilities.

Trial pits will be dug with a tracked excavator or from a borehole drilled by a van-sized rig. Where we are drilling boreholes, you may hear some hammering for short periods. The solar panels at Longfield will be mounted on structures which will be pushed into the ground using a method called ‘piling.’ We need to carry out piling testing to ensure that the ground is stable enough to support these mounts. Again, you may hear some hammering for short periods while these tests take place.

All trial pits will be filled in shortly after taking the sample.
